Details

"When Queen Nofret Crossed the River Nile" is a tea toned cyanotype triptych on Egyptian papyrus.

The photograph was taken by my wife in July 2024.

The papyrus comes from the Römer Shop in Glauberg, Germany. They purchase their papyrus direct from the farmers in Egypt at fair trade prices.

The papyrus plant is grown in the Nile delta region of the country. Once harvested, it is cut into thin strips, pressed and dried to form a paper-like surface for writing and illustration.

For this piece, I chose to work with teabag paper which provides amazing results when transferred to papyrus. Each exposure was toned separately: green tea, water and black tea.

The UV sensitive emulsion must be applied to the substrate by hand in low UV light.

Special considerations and adjustments must be made when transferring the teabag paper to Papyrus.

Print is sold without a frame. It measures 26" x 37”.

I use rare-earth magnets (not included) to hang the print in this photo.
